It can be difficult to bond as a team when so many places are still closed and while many offices haven’t reopened yet. Even offices that are open are running into team building challenges because employees must socially distance and keep a 6 foot distance between one another. So how can you still do fun team building while being responsible and safe? Advanced Hires put together a list of some activities you can do while socially distancing here:
- Virtual Scavenger Hunt: Best done over video conference, this game involves one member of the team calling out a letter and the rest of the team dispersing throughout their home to find an object that starts with the same letter. The more unusual the object, the better! You get one point if no one else has the same item as you after a 2 minute search. But if two (or more) people bring the same item, neither of them get a point. Whoever has the most points after each team member has chosen a letter wins!
- Two Truths and a Lie: Have your team members write down two true things about themselves and one lie. Each person then reads out their answers and the rest of the team must guess which is the lie! Great way to get to know teammates.
- Trivia: There are many online trivia sites where you can pull up different questions. Break your group up into teams, or if your group is small enough have each person play on their own. Give a small prize to the people who have the most points at the end, plus a prize for Best Team Name! It can be just like Trivia Night out except over video.
- Online Pictionary or Scrabble: You can play games with your teams even if your team isn’t sitting directly next to each other! There are free versions of games like Pictionary, Scrabble, and Apples to Apples online. You can also purchase virtual games from companies like JackBox TV. With a little creativity, you could even make a normal board game into a virtual experience!
- Desert Island Scenario: This is a fun thought experiment you can play with teams of all sizes. Ask your employees which 3 items they would bring with them to a desert island (and have them explain their choices). As an added fun bonus you can also have them explain which three movies or books they would bring to the island as a form of entertainment.
