As hope rises that we might able to open our country back up in the coming month or so, it’s important for businesses to think about what that looks like in a logical and responsible manner. No matter the size of your company, it’s crucial to make sure your employees, vendors, and guests are safe, and that the company is behaving in accordance to CDC regulations and suggestions. Here are some of the things you can do to prepare for returning to work in a time of social distancing:
- Deep clean the office. If your company hasn’t done this already, investing in a cleaning crew or talking with your rental space about thoroughly cleansing and disinfecting the office definitely needs to happen. Make sure there is also a supply of necessary items your team/space may need such as masks, soap, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, etc.
- Rearrange the furniture. If your office has a lot of work stations clumped together you might need to move things around. The CDC is asking people to distance themselves 6 feet from others so it is important to make sure that your employee’s desks are spread far enough apart to comply with that rule.
- Think about getting your utilities or internet turned back on NOW. What is going to happen when the state eventually opens back up and every single business that was WFH is suddenly returning to the office? It’s very possible that internet and utility services will be bombarded by requests to turn on or reactivate their service in the office space, leading to delayed wait times and slower service. If your company can afford to, it’s smart to get these services in order now so that you are fully prepared and ready to reopen when the time comes.
- Be patient. Things are not going to go back to normal overnight. Even when offices do open up, we need to be understanding and mindful of the transition. Companies that are flexible and considerate will rise to the top. Social distancing at work might seem like a pain, but it is crucial and helpful. Following the CDC’s guidelines with patience and adaptability will be good for all companies.
- Finally, create a safe haven. The last thing you want is for guests or employees to feel uncomfortable or nervous being back in the office. It would benefit you to send a message to your team outlining the steps you have put in place to make sure the return to the office is smooth, safe, and sanitized. Companies that do these things will be highly appreciated and can earn the respect and loyalty of clients and employees alike.
