As the summer of 2020 draws to close, our team has learned an incredible amount of helpful information, skills, and tactics for dealing with the massive changes we’ve seen in our professional and personal lives due to the upheaval and uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the quarantine. Now our team would like to share some of the things we’ve learned with you, so that you might be better prepared as we enter into this next phase of working while dealing with a worldwide crisis. Advanced Hires as a whole has been able to keep our heads above water, and we were even recognized as award-winners for being able to Pivot Not Panic when COVID threw new challenges our way.

We asked our employees to write a few thoughts, tips, and tricks they used during quarantine that they would want to share with other professionals that they believed might help them. The responses we got were so thorough and well-thought out, we decided to create a new series! Today are some suggestions from CEO and Founder, Kevin Scholz:

“Some things I have personally done different to be effective during COVID is to develop some kind of morning routine and to think about it the night before and get prepared. I know this is particularly difficult for many during COVID and I still have to improve in this area. I know that I’m most effective if I can get up, my workout clothes are all ready to go, water bottle ready to go, multi-vitamins all ready, and I’m all ready for work. Then I can wake up and everything is done and not such a manual effort and I can be ready for the day, whatever the day brings.

“Everyone wants to work with passionate people.”

Also, for me, it’s important to portray a high level of energy even if I’m not feeling like it at all. High energy lifts spirits and builds confidence in the person you are working with in that they will feel you are passionate and your passion will serve them well. Everyone wants to work with passionate people. Sometimes I may do something that will pump me up a little or think about something exciting. Maybe even do a little dance.

We also encourage video or telephone calls whenever possible. The amount to face-time we have with clients is probably higher with COVID because it’s really easy to video conference whereas before most communication was email or phone (as on-site meetings were rare even before COVID).”
