Employee productivity plays a major role in how much a company can grow and succeed. Productivity itself is incredibly important for you as an employee as well. It can create more opportunities and career paths for you, and if you weave it into a part of your company, you can see real benefits in your professional (and even personal) life.
However, only about 60% of work time is spent being productive. That’s mostly because the average employee is interrupted 56 times over the course of the day. There are differences between good and bad interruptions, and there are simple and easy ways to increase your work productivity throughout the day. The good news is that you can increase productivity across your team, building a stronger company along the way. The Advanced Hires team came together and created a list of work productivity tips that we are rolling out into a new blog series.
Today’s WORK PRODUCTIVITY TIP is: Write down your goals for the day.
It can be helpful for some people to write out a couple goals to complete throughout the day. Making lists is actually an extremely useful and common way to stay organized and promote effectiveness at work. With a list, you can check your tasks off as the day goes on, and it helps to show what you’ve accomplished, which can be especially useful when asking for raises or adding accomplishments to your resume.
Making lists of goals makes it easier to prioritize your tasks as well. Learning how to triage the items that come across your desk is an indispensable skill that benefits everyone, not matter what their job or career goals are. Psychologically, actually writing down a list of things you need to do can help with anxiety as well because you are physically writing them down, thus ensuring that your brain is acknowledging what needs to be done.
