Q: How can an employer create an inclusive, positive, and productive work culture at the office?
Having a safe and civil work environment is incredibly important. There cannot be any tolerance for harassment or retaliation among staff members or superiors and all employees must feel heard, comfortable, and valued. Here are some ways you can create a positive and productive work culture in your work:
- Get leadership on board. Trickle down positivity is crucial; make sure leadership is committed to positive change, supportive of respect in the workplace, and are involved in the process.
- Interview or conduct an anonymous assessment among employees asking about the workplace environment and how safe/comfortable they currently feel.
- Develop a plan or action items with a specific team dedicated to creating this kind of change in the workplace.
- Work in the values of the company in general into what you are looking for in the work environment. For example, if your company values fun, make sure you tie that into the overall culture.
- Encourage positive thinking and behavior by creating a healthy workplace policy, provide employee training, and incorporate coaching for employees who are interested in it.
