Q: I want a raise. How can I go about getting one at my job?
There are several ways to ask for a raise, but it’s important to realize that if your employer fights back, or says no, it might be time to move on. That’s where Advanced Hires comes in. We can help our candidates find jobs where they are actually paid their worth and find a good culture fit. But in the meantime, here are some tips for asking for a raise:
- Familiarize yourself with industry trends and salaries to use as comparison to your salary
- Take notes beforehand and come up with a list of reasons why you deserve a raise
- Bring tangible evidence of how you have exceeded in your role
- Know when to wrap it up; don’t wax poetic about yourself for hours
- Don’t stretch the truth about your work or accomplishments
- Get everything in writing, especially if your company agrees to the raise
