Nowadays there are a lot more phone/virtual interviews and while that can be very challenging for some people (especially those who are more extroverted and rely heavily on their natural charisma and charm), there are some straightforward and simple ways to make phone interviews work well for you. Here are some tips for ways to end your phone interviews so that your enthusiasm and skill can still come across remotely:

1.) Thank the interviewer, but also recap your experience

Obviously it’s always super important to thank the person interviewing you because they are taking the time to speak with you and see if this would be a good match. But it’s also important to recap your experience and remind the interviewer of what your work history is like and your latest roles and their application to the job you’re currently interested in.

2.) Ask what the next steps are

Make sure you don’t just say goodbye and hang up; ask the interviewer what the next steps in the process will be and what you can expect. This will show enthusiasm and interest on your end and can get you helpful information about the timeline and the things you’ll need to know moving forward.

3.) Summarize why you’re excited about the role

You definitely want the interviewer to know that you’re excited about the role. You don’t have to expressly say that, but by saying things like “I believe my ability to do X would help me do Y in this role” can make a difference. Make sure they know you are the one who can bring the most to this role and you are very interested in the company itself.

4.) Ask them if they need more information/any clarifications on your skills or roles

This is especially important if you are sensing any concerns on their end about your experience or ability to do a certain aspect of the role. By opening the door and asking if they need any more information from you or if they have any questions on your past roles/skills, you are showing an approachability and will be able to assure them if they do have any questions.
