The Advanced Hires team has made personal and professional goals going into the new year and thought that instead of sharing what those are, it would be more helpful to talk about how to achieve those goals. It’s well and good to set resolutions at work, but how can you keep them? Our team has experience in furthering the career paths of not just themselves, but of clients and candidates. In this new blog series, we will explore what tips we have to offer and how you can make your professional goals a reality.
CEO, Kevin Scholz, says that his advice for anyone trying to complete a professional resolution this year is to ORGANIZE YOUR GOALS.
Kevin feels that the best way to motivate yourself to complete professional goals involves the following set of exercises:
- Write down three to five main goals for end of the year in each of the following categories: professional, family, physical/health, financial, relational, mental, spiritual, and lifestyle.
- Narrow your goals down to 10 in total.
- Until the end of the year, eliminate anything and everything (including people) in your life that do not bring value to achieving those goals.
For example: With the financial goals, write down all the things you need to financially accomplish for the year (pay down debt, special investments, retirement savings goals, kid’s tuition savings, vacations, amount to save, etc.) and come up with a grand total you need to make. Then work backwards with respects to performance needed to hit that goal by end of year and what it takes to achieve that for the year, the month, and the day. Then structure your business day to accomplish that. If you do not do that, it’s almost impossible to maintain the discipline and structure needed to hit financial goals. Review all your goals regularly and schedule activities to achieve them. A proper blend in each of the above areas will yield the best results with respects to accomplishing professional goals.
